Dr. Irina Magidina

“So many women are nervous when they come in. It’s important to take time to make them not afraid, and encourage them to open up.”

~Dr. Magidina

Dr. Irina Magidina, who grew up in Watertown and is now the proud mother of two young children, values being able to connect with her patients as a woman and mother.

“Talking is the thing I do most in the office,” she says of a physician-patient dialogue that centers on putting women at ease, and is distinguished by a firsthand understanding of the medical care taking place. Whatever patients describe, Dr. Magidina has either experienced it personally or has the insight to understand completely.

“I think being a woman helps me to relate to my patients and makes it easier for them to relate to me," says Dr. Magidina.

That compassion comes with impeccable credentials and leadership in key areas. Board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Magidina specializes in minimally invasive da Vinci™ robotic surgery, and she is a member of the Valley Health Alliance, which is focused on fostering a system of doctors working together to provide higher-quality coordinated care to their patients, while keeping costs in check.

Dr. Magidina's personal story is as intriguing as her professional accomplishments. A native of Belarus who speaks fluent Russian, she came to the U.S. with her family in 1990.

In the midst of receiving an excellent education at top schools, she had the “good fortune” of doing a month-long rotation with the physicians at Naugatuck Valley Women’s Health Specialists. She developed an admiration for the excellence in patient care they exemplified, and after finishing her training she was excited for the opportunity to work with such dedicated physicians. Dr. Magidina joined the practice in 2012.

Outside of the office, Dr. Magidina enjoys cooking, reading, doing Zumba, and spending time with her family.
